I was a big fan of the Super Friends cartoon when I was a kid. Little did I know that I would someday be regularly taking my kids into the building that was the model for the Hall Of Justice. As you can see from a simple Google search the resemblance is uncanny. The third image from the left is the Cincinnati Museum Center also known as Union Terminal.

My wife and I have been taking the kids to the museum for at least 9 years now and I only made the connection just recently when I rented a DVD from the original series. When you look at the buildings side by side you would think that you would have to be blind not to notice, but if you have kids and know what they can be like when they are excited or tired perhaps you will cut me some slack.

After I started writing this blog post I did some more checking and found this article from cincinnati.com which gives more background and more connections to Hanna and Barbera as well as Kenner Toys. It's a good read if you want to know more.

As for the Museum itself, it is a great place to take the kids if you are ever driving through Cincinnati. There are three separate museums inside including a children's museum, natural history and Cincinnati history as well as an Omnimax theater. For my part I just like looking at the decor and murals inside this art deco masterpiece of a building. Not to mention that for some reason I feel just a little bit safer now when I go inside knowing that the Legion Of Doom is being held safely at bay. Just be prepared to take action if you hear a "trouble alert"!

Camp KDE

Hey Aaron,

This is Jos Poortvliet from the Netherlands. I'm a volunteer in the KDE community, and I wanted to mention the upcoming Camp KDE. From januari 15 to 22 the annual US meeting of the KDE community will take place at the University of California in sunny San Diego!

So if you want to meet cool people, hear interesting talks and see what the future of the Free Desktop will look like, you should be there! It is open to anyone so you're all invited. And while there will be some technical and less technical talks, we're still looking for more interesting topics so if you have something to say, let us know!

See you in San Diego

greets and have a great show,

Jos Poortvliet
