Project Kenai
If you have a new software project you are thinking about and need a place to put it you might want to think about Project Kenai. I first became aware of this service last fall and I was impressed with the features and look of the site. This site was started by Sun about a year ago and really improves upon the look and feel of more traditional project development sites. It also integrates social networking features like tags and easy ways to relate your project to others that might be similar.
Project Kenai is a Ruby-on-Rails application with the front UI written in JRuby, running on Glassfish, MySQL and OpenSolaris. Every project gets some great tools to use which include:
- Source Code Management (Subversion, Mercurial, and Git)
- Issue Tracking (Jira and Bugzilla)
- Wiki - Forums
- Mailing Lists
- Download facility for documents
and they are working on integration with Netbeans if you use it. Here is a video that goes into more details on how the site works.
